An Evening of Doo-Wop starring
Charlie Thomas' Drifters
& Barbara Harris and The Toys
Friday, July 12, 2019 @8 pm

Charlie Thomas's The DriftersBeginning in 1953, The Drifters provided the prototype for R&B vocal groups and set the stage for the onset of soul with over ten years of marvelous singles. The songwriting and production talents of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller introduced innovative arrangements on the Drifters' hits, including odd orchestrations that keep these classic recordings sounding fresh years later. Their classics include the hits "Under the Boardwalk", "Some Kind of Wonderful", "There Goes My Baby", "Up On The Roof", "On Broadway?” and "Save the Last Dance for Me".

Barbara Harris and the Toys

The Toys are an American pop girl group from Jamaica, New York, that formed in 1961. The Toys were discovered at a talent show by manager Vince Marc, who introduced them to songwriters Sandy Linzer and Denny Randell. Linzer and Randell wrote most of the songs recorded by The Toys, including their U.S. #2 hit single "A Lover's Concerto". Linzer and Randell also produced the group's 1965-66 recordings on Bob Crewe's DynoVoice record label. Global sales of this disc exceeded two million copies, with a gold record awarded by the R.I.A.A. in 1965. The Toys appeared on most of the major TV rock programs, including Shindig!, Hullabaloo, and American Bandstand. They also had a cameo role in the 1967 beach movie "It's a Bikini World".

Dr. K's Motown Revue
Saturday, July 20, 2019 @ 8:00 pm

Dr. K's Motown RevueWithout a doubt, The Motown Sound has left an indelible stamp on the heart, soul and mind of several generations of fans worldwide. Over the years, many of the artists and writers responsible for bringing this incredible body of work to the world have passed on. However, the music lives on through movies, radio, television commercials, collectible CD's, dance halls, weddings, and karaoke clubs. It's not just the songs, but the memories associated with them that have forever imprinted the Motown Sound in the hearts and souls of music fans. Without realizing it, we all know every lyric, melody, and instrumental phrases associated with their songs. So much so, that if a live band plays their songs and leaves out any of these memorable licks, we know it and subconsciously add it in ourselves.

Listen to Heat Wave - originally by Martha and the Vandellas

Listen to Uptight - originally by Stevie Wonder

That brings us to Paul Korman and his visionary quest to create the ultimate Motown tribute band. He has put together an amazing array of seasoned musicians and singers that he's either played with or wanted to play with over the years. Together they have become Dr. K's Motown Revue. This outstanding band of musicians and singers take you on a realistic journey of the Motown sound, and make you want to sing along on every familiar song they play. They have kept the Motown sound true to its roots and each performance they do transports you back to another era . . . what a ride! Every audience, both young and not so young, can't help dancing to that Motown beat, often leaving at the end of the night asking where they can see or hear the band next. Their appeal in large, is attributed to the perfect blend of the Motown era costumes worn and the outstanding group of singers who compliment this latter day "Funk Brothers" type band of musicians. Each singer is quite capable of fronting any band as a soloist and the combination of singers is more than enough to deliver, authentically, the vocal sound of the Motown roster of artists from that time. The result is a powerhouse performance that adds not only to their reputation but to the reputation of any venue that books them.

The Brooklyn BridgeThe Brooklyn Bridge was created in 1968 when two bands, The Rhythm Method and The Del-Satins featuring Johnny Maestro, merged. From the late 1950s to the early 1960s, Johnny Maestro was the lead singer of The Crests, fronting such hits as “Sixteen Candles”, “Trouble In Paradise”, “Step By Step”, and others. The Del-Satins recorded hit “Teardrops Follow Me” and were the most respected studio background vocalists, working with many artists, most notably with Dion, on his solo hits, including “The Wanderer”, “Runaround Sue”, and many others. The Rhythm Method was a 7-piece local Long Island band popular on the local club circuit. Known for their trademarks of strong vocal and horn arrangements, The Brooklyn Bridge recorded hit after hit beginning with their first gold record for Jimmy Webbs, “The Worst That Could Happen”. Other hits include "Welcome Me Love", "Blessed Is The Rain", and "Your Husband, My Wife". The Band’s countless television appearances include The Ed Sullivan Show. They continue to make numerous concert appearances in the US and abroad, recently visiting Germany and England. The Brooklyn Bridge has appeared in most of the major concert halls including Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, L.A.s Universal Amphitheater, as well casinos throughout the United States. In 2006, the band was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. They are also members of South Carolinas Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame, the New England Vocal Group Hall of Fame, the Harmony Group Hall of Fame, and recently the group received a star on the New Jersey Walk of Fame. After four decades, the Brooklyn Bridge continues to record and tour, delighting long-time fans and making new ones along the way. Their recording of “So Fine” can be heard in Robert Davis’ film, The Dukes, starring Chazz Palminteri. Demand for live appearances is stronger now than at any time in the band’s history. As they begin their fifth decade performing, The Brooklyn Bridge leaves a rich legacy in the annals of Rock n Roll.
